Leave a Legacy That Breaks the Cycle of Poverty

A planned gift to Xiente ensures that families in North Philadelphia will have the resources, support, and opportunity to build lasting economic mobility — long after you are gone. Your legacy becomes their future.

Why Planned Giving

Your Values, Carried Forward

For over 45 years, Xiente has walked alongside families in North Philadelphia — providing early education, workforce development, financial coaching, and affordable housing. A planned gift ensures this work continues for generations to come.

Planned gifts — also called legacy gifts — are contributions arranged during your lifetime but typically received by Xiente after your passing. They allow you to make a transformational impact without affecting your current financial security, and they can be structured in many ways to meet your personal, financial, and estate planning goals.

Seven Ways to Leave Your Legacy

There is no single right way to make a planned gift. We work with donors and their advisors to find the approach that best fits their goals, values, and financial situation.

Bequest in Your Will

The most common planned gift

A bequest is a gift made through your will or living trust. It costs nothing during your lifetime and can be changed at any time. You can leave a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or the residue after other bequests are fulfilled. No cost during your lifetime — change it anytime.

IRA / Retirement Assets

Beneficiary designation gift

Retirement accounts like IRAs and 401(k)s are among the most tax-efficient assets to give to charity. By naming Xiente as a beneficiary, you avoid income tax on those funds — while leaving other assets to your heirs. Avoid double taxation on retirement assets.

Appreciated Securities

Stocks, bonds, or mutual funds

Donating appreciated stock directly to Xiente lets you avoid capital gains tax and receive a charitable deduction for the full fair market value — a double tax benefit compared to selling the stock and donating the proceeds. Avoid capital gains tax entirely.

Required Minimum Distribution (RMD)

Qualified Charitable Distribution

If you are 70½ or older, you can make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) of up to $105,000 per year directly from your IRA to Xiente. The distribution counts toward your RMD and is excluded from your taxable income. Satisfy your RMD and reduce taxable income.

Real Estate

Property or home

You can donate real property — a home, vacation property, or land — to Xiente outright or through a retained life estate, allowing you to continue living in the property during your lifetime while receiving an immediate tax deduction. Deduct full fair market value of the property.

Charitable Remainder Trust

Income for life, legacy for Xiente

A Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT) pays income to you or your beneficiaries for life or a term of years. When the trust ends, the remaining assets pass to Xiente. You receive an immediate partial tax deduction when the trust is funded. Receive income for life while supporting our mission.

Life Insurance

Name Xiente as beneficiary

You can name Xiente as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy — either for the full amount or a percentage. If you donate an existing policy outright, you may receive a charitable deduction for the policy's cash value. Turn a small premium into a major legacy gift.

IRA Charitable Rollover

Give from Your IRA — Tax Free

If you are age 70½ or older, you can make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) of up to $105,000 per year directly from your IRA to Xiente. The amount transferred:

  • Is excluded from your taxable income
  • Counts toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD)
  • Does not require you to itemize deductions
  • Can be made from a traditional or Roth IRA

Frequently Asked Questions

In most cases, no. A bequest in your will, for example, costs nothing during your lifetime and can be changed or revoked at any time. Other vehicles, like a QCD from your IRA, use assets you would otherwise distribute anyway. We always recommend consulting with your financial advisor or estate planning attorney.
